Pediatric Sleep Medicine is a relatively new and rapidly-growing facet of children’s healthcare. The pulmonologists of Austin Children’s Chest Associates are called upon to see and evaluate a variety of children and adolescents for both sleep-disordered breathing and primary sleep disorders.
Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, obesity-hypoventilation syndrome, central hypoventilation, chronic respiratory insufficiency/failure, insomnias, narcolepsy and periodic limb movement disorder, among others.
Sleep Studies
Dr. J. Brian Kang is the Medical Director of the Sleep Physiology and Neurodiagnostic Laboratory at the Dell Children’s Medical Center. The polysomnograms (sleep studies) performed there are comprehensive and may include extended EEG evaluation, CPAP and bi-level CPAP titration, home ventilation checks, and multiple sleep-latency testing. Sleep Medicine patients are followed either in the Austin Children’s Chest Associates office or in the Sleep Clinic in the Specialty Care Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
